Celebrity culture is forcing many young girls to attempt to be something that they’re not – at least, not for the time being. While Lindsay Lohan’s 14-year-old sister Ali is quick to grow up, thus becoming the target of the entire media and public alike, British sensation Emma Watson is at the opposite end, the actress still holding on to her true self, as revealed by her recent interview for vs magazine.

Speaking on topics such as her image and what the public wants from her, 18-year-old Emma, star of the “Harry Potter” films, admits that she’s having a bad time accepting that people really do want her to be in a certain way.

However, she says, she is not the one to just go with the flow because, first of all, she does not see herself as a celebrity, therefore is not constrained by celebrity “rules” to be in a way she is not.

In the same interview, the actress and already a role model for many girls her age, argues that she finds the concept of being good-looking “embarrassing and confusing,” adding that she will always stay true to herself and not back down from media pressure.

“If I do an interview with photographs people desperately want to change me – dye my hair blonder, pluck my eyebrows, give me a fringe. Then there’s the choice of clothes. I know everyone wants a picture of me in a mini-skirt. But that’s not me. I feel uncomfortable. I’d never go out in a mini-skirt. It’s nothing to do with protecting the Hermione image. I wouldn’t do that.” Emma explains.

As for the current trend noticeable in all female celebrities, which has it that the more clothes you shed, the more appreciated you are, Emma just does not feel the same way. According to the actress, a woman’s charm is not to be found in the degree of undress she’s in, but in her own person, which is precisely what she’s going for right now. “My idea is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder.” the actress points out.

With this new interview, Emma proves, once more, that even showbiz can have rare, remarkable exceptions to the norm. “I don’t consider myself to be a celebrity. I don’t fit that mold. I worry that people have expectations of me being someone I’m not. I’m just finding myself and trying to live as normally as possible and be as normal as possible.” Emma Watson underlines.
