By the time you finish reading the title, it's pretty clear what's going on in your head: “Emma Watson as the Little Mermaid? Yes, please!” and you can't be blamed for your reaction. It's safe to say that many people on God's green Earth want to see Hermione move up in the world as a red-haired mermaid with nothing but shells covering up the essential bits.

The Sun is adding fire to the speculation by saying that the 23-year-old Watson is in talks to star as the Little Mermaid Ariel for the live-action version of the film that yesterday was claimed to be directed by Sophia Coppola.

Though an unusual choice for the project, as she's more at home with grown-ups dramas, Sophia Coppola, who has finished her work on “The Bling Ring” has a good idea of whom she'd like to see wearing a fishtail in the movie, and that's the “Harry Potter” actress Emma Watson.

Through an inside source we find out that “Sofia wants Emma and the pair have such a respect for each other, it would be very surprising if they carry on without each other. Movie companies Universal and Working Title want to move quickly on this so expect an announcement soon.”

The script is believe to be written by Tim Burton, who will more than likely give it a dark spin, meaning that the end result is likely going to be aimed at a more mature audience and is not going to follow the classic fairy tale so close as previous versions.
