This summer will be a busy one for Eminem fans, as the rapper is coming out with a brand new album, a new single and, as tradition demands it, a video to promote it. The video for “Not Afraid,” the lead single off “Recovery,” will arrive this weekend but, in the meantime, Eminem talks about the concept behind it, AceShowbiz informs.

As we also informed you a few days back, Eminem himself announced the release of the upcoming video on his Twitter page, saying he was somewhat forced to announce a date because of pressure from fans. At the time, he did not say much about the concept of the vid, which only made fans even more impatient. Speaking with the aforementioned e-zine, Em seems to have had a change of heart and talks a bit more about the video and the message behind it.

“In anticipation of ‘Not Afraid’ clip which is due this weekend, Eminem was willing to dish concept of the music video. ‘The overall concept is basically just being in a dark place and trying to get to the light,’ the rapper said in an interview with Skyrock FM in Paris. In addition to talking about the video which is going to be premiered on June 5, the Slim Shady also talked about collaborations on ‘Recovery’ where ‘Not Afraid’ will appear,” AceShowbiz writes.

And that’s not the only thing that Eminem revealed about his upcoming material during the same interview either. “Of Rihanna duet, he gushed, ‘It’s one of those tracks that I felt like only she could pull it off.’ When recalling studio session with Pink, the rap mogul shared, ‘I laid my parts first and kinda heard her on the record. I felt like she would smash this record, so I gave her a call and she was with it, so we did it.’ He also addressed his work with Lil Wayne, saying ‘I’ve always respected what Wayne does. Wayne to me is definitely one of the greatest in the game right now’,” the same e-zine says.

“Recovery” was initially meant to be “Relapse 2” but, after many months in the studio, Eminem realized, as per his own admission, that the material recorded needed an album on its own and not to be a part of a sequel. While “Recovery” is out on June 22, the video for “Not Afraid” drops on June 5. In the meantime, check out the single below and keep an eye on this space for updates.

I think Eminem is too angry. Yeah he is a good artist but Tupac should've been the last rapper to lay angry tracks with a point behind his music. Everybody goes through dark moments, but I think this particular song is a song for the white urban male who's trying to find his place in life as well as hip-hop.

Eminem has by far surpassed his place in hip hop as well as life. There is no musician as talented and genius as he is, in my opinion. This music video is just another example of how great he actually is. Love him.
