This is like the ‘90s all over again. Just days after a very rare public appearance from Detroit rapper Eminem, he’s putting his name to a new release – and people are already taking offense with the lyrics, because they target Lana del Rey and make a mockery out of the very painful issue of domestic violence.

This isn’t exactly a new Eminem song, but rather a compilation of freestyle verses from a variety of rappers signed with his Shady Records, called “CXVPHER.”

The compilation also gets a video, which you can find on Eminem’s VEVO. *Please note that discretion is recommended when viewing it because it contains profane and graphic language that might offend.

Artists like Royce Da 5’9”, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf are featured on the track, with bits of freestyle, shot in various parts of the country. Eminem doesn’t come in until the end, rapping from Detroit, his hometown.

“But I may fight for gay rights, especially if they [expletive] is more of a knockout than Janay Rice/Play nice?” he raps. “[B-word] I’ll punch Lana Del Rey right in the face twice, like Ray Rice in broad daylight in the plain sight of the elevator surveillance/’Til her head is banging on the railing, then celebrate with the Ravens.”

The lyric is a reference to the February assault the running back for the Baltimore Ravens shocked the world with, when he uppercutted his then-fiancée now-wife Janay Rice with such brute force she banged her head against the railing and instantly blacked out. The incident was captured by surveillance cameras and cost Rice his NFL position.

Ironically, not long ago, Lana was saying how much she loved Eminem because he was a “master of lyrics.” I wonder how she feels about it now.

Until Lana responds to this, I should note that rapper Azealia Banks attacked Em on Twitter for it, defending her favorite pop star.
