Eminem threw “hissy fit” over performance at the BRIT Awards 2011, report claims

Rapper Eminem has been asked to perform at the upcoming BRIT Awards and, though he initially said yes, it seems he’s having some second thoughts about it, a new report in the British tabs claims.

Though he has quite a colorful history of getting into feuds with fellow celebrities, event organizers have never had a reason to complain about him – until now, OK! Magazine claims.

According to the tab, the rapper won’t agree to perform at the awards ceremony unless he’s told beforehand whether he’ll also win something in the categories he’s nominated.

Clearly, this is a request that organizers can’t grant, given that the whole purpose of the ceremony is to have nominees find on the spot whether they’ve won.

Only few exceptions are made to this rule, particularly when the nominees announce organizers in due time that they can’t be at the actual event – which is when those pre-taped acceptance speeches or satellite transmissions come in.

“Eminem has apparently had a hissy fit with the organizers over his performance at the BRIT Awards 2011 and refused to perform unless they tell him if he’s won a gong,” OK! writes, citing well placed inside sources.

“The rapper was due to make an appearance with Rihanna on their track Love The Way You Lie at next month’s awards, but has pulled out after bosses wouldn’t tell him if he’d won in the categories he's nominated in,” the tab further explains.

Those would be Best International Solo Male Artist and Best International Album, clearly two of the biggest categories.

“The star-studded ceremony has garnered a host of top talent on the bill, including Rihanna, Cee Lo Green, Adele, Arcade Fire, Mumford And Sons, Take That, Tinie Tempah and Plan B,” OK! adds.

Whether Eminem will also be among them will soon be determined. The BRIT Awards 2011 will take place at London’s O2 Arena, on February 15.

*Update [January 21, 2011]: BRIT Awards organizers have released the following statement on the above - “The story currently stipulating that Eminem is refusing to play The Brits is complete fabrication. We would be honoured to have Eminem perform at The Brits but the timing of this year’s show simply didn’t work with his schedule."
