In the words of Lord Eddard Stark, winter is coming. And I'm sure many are already thinking about putting on a warm, wool sweater and heading out to enjoy a walk in the park.

Well, leave it to Emily Deschanel and PETA to rain on wool sweater aficionados' parade.

Yesterday's morning, the actress took to Twitter to raise awareness of how sheep were treated by people in the business of wool production, and asked that fans and followers think twice before choosing to wear a wool sweater.

“Before you buy that new sweater, please take a look at this,” Emily tweeted, and linked her message to a PETA blogpost detailing the horrors that sheep raised for wool endured, Ecorazzi reports.

“About 25 percent of the world's wool comes from Australia. It is considered 'normal' in the Australian wool industry for approximately 3 million young lambs to die every spring,” PETA explains in this blogpost.

“Young lambs' ears are hole-punched, their Tails are chopped off, and the males are castrated, all usually without anesthetics or pain relief,” the organization further details.

One can only hope that people will give due consideration to Emily Deschanel and PETA's message.
