“Edge of Tomorrow” comes out in theaters on June 6

One of the most intensely mediated action movies of the summer is the Tom Cruise / Emily Blunt sci-fi film “Edge of Tomorrow,” initially called “All You Need Is Kill.” As of right now, we might as well call it “that movie Emily said she would not make because she’d rather she did bad theater instead.”

Talking with The Telegraph about the film, which sees the duo play soldiers caught in a time loop, with Cruise’s character dying at the end of the day, in the middle of an alien attack that will destroy Earth, Emily was asked about a statement she’d made in an older interview with the same publication.

Said comment went something along the lines of how she’d rather do badly paid theater for eternity than consider to accept a role “as a spear carrier in a Tom Cruise movie.” Burn!

“I never said that! What an awful thing to say,” a visibly appalled Emily told The Telegraph. However, the interviewer had come prepared with a clipping of the 2005 issue of the publication that ran the quote.

Well, at least Emily had an amazing save for the situation: “That is so funny. Well, at least I’m not a spear carrier,” she “roared” with laughter.

“Edge of Tomorrow” drops in theaters in most territories on June 6 and initial reviews are absolutely beaming. That’s one more reason for Emily not to regret going back on her (initial) word.
