Embed Your Google Docs Videos Anywhere on the Web

Yes, there are Google Docs videos. Well, there are if you upload them to your Google Docs account. Since you can now upload any file to Docs, users started adding video files as well, to store them in the cloud. Early this year, Google introduced the ability to watch those videos on the site.

Now, Google is enabling users to share the videos with anyone by making them embeddable. You can also add any Google Docs video in Google Sites.

"Beginning this week, you’ll be able to go beyond simply playing your videos within Google Docs -- you can now insert your videos into Google Sites, embed them anywhere on the web, and caption them for your viewers," Patrick Lacz, software engineer at Google, announced.

If you want to add video content to your Google Sites-hosted website, you now have another option beyond YouTube and the obsolete Google Videos.

You can add a clip from your Google Docs account, provided you have previously uploaded one. Just go to the Insert menu and select Video > Google Docs Video.

But you can now share your Docs videos across the web as well, since there is now embed support.

The Docs video playback feature is powered by YouTube technology, so this is not exactly a breakthrough, but it's still a nice option to have.

A great thing about Docs video embedding is that you get more privacy options than on YouTube.

If your video file is only shared with a specified list of people, only those people will be able to see it, regardless of where you have embedded it.

"You can also caption your videos to make them accessible for deaf and hard of hearing viewers or for speakers of different languages," Google detailed another new feature for Docs videos.

"You can find these videos more easily by searching for any text in the transcript of the video from your documents list," it explained one great use of captions.

"To give it a try, choose Manage caption tracks from the Actions menu for your video, then click Upload caption track," Google explained.
