A new HoMM-like strategy comes from 1C

Turn-based strategies are not exactly best sellers, but well-done ones definitely manage to skyrocket and make a handful of people very happy. Such is probably the case with Elven Legacy, a TBS game under development at 1C:Ino-Co, set for release sometime in the first quarter of 2009 for PC systems.

Elven Legacy promises to deliver a world filled with magic, as well as a thrilling nonlinear storyline that will provide many hours of fun gameplay for strategy enthusiasts. The concept is pretty simple: you're tasked with an epic quest to restore the former glory of the Elven race and this fantasy strategy game offers both depth and scope, all in colorful and inspirational settings. Which means that it might be something fans of the genre were expecting for quite some time now.

"This is one of the best-looking TBS games I've seen in a long time, and it follows in the same spirit of games like Heroes of Might and Magic, Master of Magic, and Warlords Battlecry", said Paradox Interactive Executive Vice President Fredrik Wester. "The developers have really taken care to provide extensive depth and content, which could make this game one of those that stays [sic] on gamers [sic] hard drives for a long time."

Honestly, whenever I hear a game being compared with HoMM (and that game is not Disciples), I'm over-excited: I've been waiting for a quality, time consuming fantasy turn-based strategy game ever since In The Wake of Gods was released by fans of HoMM3, which means that it's been quite a while. So, even though there are no screenshots and no solid proof that this game indeed has what it takes to become a mega hit, I am writing it on my personal list of titles to keep an eye on. So stay tuned, since we'll update you as soon as we find out more about Elven Legacy.
