"Interview with a Vampire", Anne Rice's book, after being screened in 1994 by director Neil Jordan, now enjoys the attention of Sir Elton John, who will produce it on Broadway.

"When I read 'Interview with a Vampire' for the first time, I wanted to become a vampire," Sir Elton John confessed.
The new musical, Lestat, will be based both on Anne Rice's 1973 novel 'Interview with a Vampire' and on two more of her books 'The Vampire Lestat' and 'Queen of the Damned'.
The role played by Tom Cruise in the movie will belong now to actor Hugh Panero, and the one played by Antonio Banderas, to Jack Noseworthy.
The show will open in San Francisco in December and will land on Broadway in March-April next year.

The last Broadway musical on the subject - 'Dance of the Vampires', starring Michael Crawford - closed in January 2003 after just 56 performances.

Sir Elton's other musicals include Aida and Billy Elliot.
