Sir Elton John has decided to donate money to a Nepal clinic, to help the LGBT community and to fight HIV/AIDS in the Asian country.

John's organization, The Elton John AIDS Foundation, has given around £25,000 (approximately $44,000) to the Blue Diamond Society (BDS), the only non-profit organization from the region who represents the rights of the gay community and fights against HIV/AIDS.

Sunil Babu Pant, Chief Executive of the Blue Diamond Society, declared he plans to built new clinics for HIV-positive homosexuals in Kathmandu and Butwal.

Pant enthuses: "Sir Elton John recently contributed £25,000 (€37,300) for the treatment of HIV/AIDS-affected gays and lesbians and assured us of further assistance in the future."

Sir Elton's donation comes after he has recently pledged more support for international victims of homophobia in an article written for The Observer this summer.

"I want our government, which has presided over many positive changes for gay people here in the U.K., to ensure that ending violations of gay people's fundamental human rights around the world becomes an explicit issue in its diplomatic relations with other countries."

The singer has also urged the public to protest against the treatment of lesbian and gay people in Africa, Asia and South America.

"The sheer force of our numbers will ultimately help those who are suffering from extreme poverty and extreme prejudice all over the world," he wrote in the above-mentioned article.
