Sarah Hoidahl is a 22-year-old single mother from New Hampshire, who lives with her parents and works two jobs, one as a waitress and one as a bartender, to be able to make ends meet. Because she’s “an amazing person,” she just got a $10,000 (€7,310) tip from talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

Sarah became a sort of an Internet star after she picked up the lunch tab for two military women who had come to eat at her restaurant. She thought it was the least she could do for them during the government shutdown, as a thank-you for them for serving their country.

The military women posted her note to Facebook and it went viral, which brought Sarah on Ellen. Above is her interview.

First of all, Ellen paid Sarah back for the meal. She also gave her a huge TV set because hers was broken and Ellen deemed that “inacceptable” because it meant she couldn’t watch The Ellen Show.

Then, Ellen offered Sarah much-needed financial help through a $10,000 (€7,310) check; Sarah said the money would be used to pay her debts and some medical bills, but that she would also donate to charity.
