Ellen DeGeneres proves that not only children from third world countries should experience the benefits of being adopted. She has recently placed herself among the individuals who fight against animal cruelty.

This year, she is advising us to take the turkey out of our Thanksgiving menu, and bring it in our households, as a pet, for one day.

It is the second time that she tries to expand the Adopt a Turkey initiative on a national scale, with the help of Farm Sanctuary organization.

“Did you know that every year between 250 and 300 million turkeys are bred for slaughter in the United States? More than 46 million for Thanksgiving alone. So, this Thanksgiving instead of eating a turkey, please join me in adopting one from Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey Project and you can give a turkey something to be thankful for,” stated DeGeneres.

The best part is that you don't actually have to bring the turkey home, feed it and take care of it. Modern times provide modern means transforming your philanthropic ideals into reality. You can become a turkey's hero by just donating $30.
