After eight or so years of dating, television personality Ellen DeGeneres married “Ally McBeal” star Portia de Rossi in August 2008, in an intimate ceremony held at the Beverly Hills home. In the latest issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, Ellen opens up about what beauty means to her and gushes about married life and perfect happiness with Portia.

Ellen, always the unconventional star, is just as rebellious when it comes to her personal life and the views she has on it. Never the one to strive to attain the beauty standards in Tinseltown, Ellen says she feels the most beautiful when she’s with Portia. Beauty is not so much on the exterior, she points out, as it’s about how you feel – this is why she personally felt the most beautiful when she finally married Portia.

“The day I got married” was the day when Ellen felt the most beautiful, she tells the magazine. Then, after a brief interruption to wipe her teary eyes and check on her makeup, Ellen adds, “You’re worse than Barbara Walters!… It’s just very emotional. You find the person you love, you think you’ve come this far… and anyway, I never thought I’d have a wedding, and I did, and it meant more than I imagined.”

With all that, beauty for Ellen is often an abstract concept that she has rarely agreed to accept as having any relevance in daily life. However, working in showbiz is often about meeting certain standards, and Ellen, of all, is aware of this. “To me it’s sad to be defined by beauty, because it’s something that goes away and changes. If you’re trying to chase that forever, you’re in trouble.” she explains.

However, she for one has managed to find some sort of balance in her life. Ellen admits she’s not petrified of growing old, now that she has found happiness with Portia. “As I’ve aged and matured, I just feel better about myself, more confident and more comfortable in my own skin. As that’s happened, I think I look better than I’ve ever looked, because that’s just what happens when you feel better about yourself.” Ellen reveals.
