Who needs the Ice Bucket Challenge when there are kissing charities?

Here's a new idea that could very well become an even bigger viral than the Harlem Shake and the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: a kissing auction. British beauty and actress Elizabeth Hurley has decided to auction off one of her kisses and have the proceeds donated to charity.

The Daily Mail reports that Hurley entered the Elton John's AIDS Foundation fundraising Rally on Thursday, September 4, and that she auctioned off one of her kisses. Basically, the person who donated the most money got a kiss from the lovely actress.

As soon as the announcement was made that Hurley was going to kiss the biggest donor of the evening, a frantic mob of men started bidding like crazy, ending up with the staggering sum of $85,000 (€64,989). The winner was Julian Bharti, the son of financial tycoon Stan Bharti.

The event took place at Elton Johns's Woodside End of Summer Party at his mansion in Berkshire, England, and it brought out many famous faces apart from Elizabeth Hurley. Among the big celebs who showed up for the party were Sir Ian McKellen, Ellie Goulding and Lulu, all of whom splashed out $5,100 (€3,899) for the ticket.

But that's not all. Elton John also organized a series of big performances from Chrissie Hynde, Gary Barlow, James Blunt, opera singer Alfie Boe and DJ Fatboy Slim. Of course, at some point in the evening, Sir Elton John himself took the stage and performed in honor of his charity which celebrated its 21st anniversary.

The event brought out the who's who of the British entertainment industry and since it was all for a good cause, the party seemed to be bigger than usual.

Also present for the charitable event was Elton's partner, David Furnish, and the couple's two children, Zachary, 3, and Elijah, 20 months old. Everyone was dressed in their Sunday best and the two boys looked very sleek in their matching ensembles.

You will be pleased to hear that there were no ice bucket challenges performed, which could be a first sign that this fad is dying away, but not because people have lost interest, but simply because there pretty much aren't any people left to challenge, since everyone has done the bloody challenge at least once.

We welcome this kind of charitable auctions in the States as well and have already made up a provisional list of celebrities we would want to see involved in them first. Of course, you are free to add your choice below (not that there's anything wrong with Elizabeth Hurley in the first place).
