Elive, a complete operating system for your computer, built on top of Debian GNU/Linux and customized to meet the needs of any user while still offering the eye-candy with minimal hardware requirements, is now at version 2.3.5 Beta and is available for download.

The Elive developers are still piling up changes and improvements for their distribution, and numerous enhancements have been added.

“Elive has a highly developed internal structure, making it adaptable to all your needs. You can do things like to write simple documents or make professional video editing, being multitasking you can launch any applications at the same time without blocking. Thus Elive never blocks, never has virus and never destroys your data due to unacceptable errors.”

“The system is so customizable that you can change entirely its behaviour and automate tasks in any desired way. You can even run Elive in your oldest computer transforming it back to a powerful workstation, so imagine how fast it will run on your newer computer! We use for that the most lightweight combination of applications, libraries, and techniques to build a very responsive and optimized system,” reads the official website.

According to the changelog, EFL (enlightenment libraries) have been updated to the beta version 1.11, darktable and librecad applications have been included by default, Nightingale is now available from the repositories, and right-clicking on a PDF in the File Manager will now give you the option to shrink it.

Also, a number of interactive git shortcuts have been implemented for the Shell, the Users Home directory is now in their default language, a few improvements have been made to Tmux when using it with SSH, and the microphone detection with Skype is now working much better.

The makers of Elive also say that the Beta versions are not as optimized as the Stable ones due to debug flags and developer profiles, so it's very likely that you will encounter various bugs and problems. It's also likely that the final version of this distro will be out pretty soon.

More details about this distribution can be found in the official announcement. You can download Elive 2.3.5 Beta right now from Softpedia.

Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only. It's recommended that you use a virtual machine to test the OS, like VirtualBox for example.
