Elive, a complete operating system for your computer, built on top of Debian GNU/Linux and customized to meet the needs of any user while still offering the eye-candy with minimal hardware requirements, has just reached version 2.2.2 Beta and is available for download.

The distribution is still in development and its makers are pushing lots of updates and changes. This latest release doesn't really bring anything spectacular, but some interesting performance changes have been implemented.

For example, the normal installation is now usable, the automatic partitioning is now using optimal settings, the installer now updates automatically if there is a new version available, and the installer now checks for HDD speeds, BIOS clock, partition alignment, and SSD optimizations.

Also, the partition management included in the Elive tools framework is now much better, guided help during the installation process is now available, the upgrade mode is still not working, and the migration mode hasn't been tested.

The developers of Elive have also asked for the community's help in testing the operating system, so users are encouraged to provide feedback based on their experience.

You can download Elive 2.2.2 Beta right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.
