The team from Elive has announced a new development version of the Debian-based LiveCD with the latest Enlightenment 17 (E17) window manager. Elive 1.7.7 comes with some improvements and software updates.

Among the new features in this release, we notice an improvement to
the bluetooth auto-detection. Therefore, every time a bluetooth device is detected on your system, a bluetooth applet will appear in your system tray area, helping you control your device.

This version also brings some desktop notifications about different events. For example, you will get a visual notification if data is still transferring to/from your USB device and you want to unplug it, or when you have to enter the pin code for a bluetooth device connected to your PC.

Elive 1.7.7 also brings two new improvements in Xorg: a new feature in the Graphical Configurator that will scan your hard drive for existing configurations to use (useful if you have a valid xinerama configuration in another distribution or a special X11 setup), and the touchpad support that was enabled again. Moreover, the ATI (fglrx) video driver was greatly improved on in this version.

Remember that this is an unstable operating system and should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended to be used for testing purposes only. Please report bugs to the Elive Testers Mailing List Group.

About Elive:

Elive is an operating system created by using Debian GNU/Linux as its basis, and it offers a lot of eye-candy while keeping the resources consumption very low with the help of the Enlightenment window manager.

The Elive Linux distribution sports a large number of applications, ranging from office applications to games. You can watch movies and, even better, you can create your own. E16 is the stable edition of the Enlightenment window manager that comes with Elive. Besides this, E17, the development version of Enlightenment is brought to you from CVS and is updated on a regular basis through Elive's testing repository. If you want to use Elive, it is recommended you use a computer with minimum 128 of RAM and a 300 MHz CPU.
