The newly added structure will orbit around Vulcan

The team at Frontier Development working on Elite: Dangerous is announcing that it is planning to introduce a new Nimoy Memorial station in the coming update 1.2 for the space-based video game, designed to honor the legacy of the actor who died last week.

Michael Brookes, a producer, announced the memorial on the official forums and added that "I should have mentioned that it will be in the LHS 3006 system around the only suitably named planet."

There's currently some confusion over whether the developers are only planning to change the name of a starport which is already orbiting the planet Vulcan, referenced above, or if they are adding an entirely new station near it in order to celebrate the work of Leonard Nimoy and especially his role as Spock in Star Trek.

It's unclear how gamers will be able to show their appreciation for the actor other than by simply executing flybys around the new space station.

At the moment, the 1.2 update for Elite: Dangerous does not have an official launch date, but it will probably be introduced before the end of the month.

Star Trek Online has also announced that it will introduce a memorial to Leonard Nimoy during the next maintenance period for the MMO, which is set to take place on March 5.

Elite: Dangerous will focus on the addition of Wings

The biggest new feature being introduced for the space sim is called Wings and is designed to add more ways for gamers to play cooperatively and work together in order to achieve objectives and explore space together.

Gamers who group will be able to see the signal of a special beacon, regardless of where they are in the universe of Elite: Dangerous, as long as they are in super cruise, and quickly move to that location.

Gamers will also be able to use an entirely new debug camera in update 1.2 in order to take images of their ship and share them with the rest of the community.

Frontier is also aiming to tweak other core elements of Elite: Dangerous and to make it easier for gamers to explore space using their own play style.
