Elite: Dangerous from Frontier Studios is following through with its Kickstarter success, now presenting its backers with the first playable version of the game.

The developers are releasing the first version of the game's alpha, meant to test single-player combat and to showcase some of the game's unique mechanics such as heat management (the main way for enemies to detect your presence in space).

The alpha will only be available for backers who have pledged £200 / $327 / €238 or more during the campaign.

Other alpha sections of the game will be made available next year, following completion, and will gradually become available to beta backers on lower pledge tiers, as EuroGamer informs.

Frontier Studios' single-player gameplay test includes eight playable scenarios.
