Erin Andrews, a contestant on the tenth season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars received a “slap in the face” from Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who went on The View to say that Erin’s stalker could have just watched DWTS and avoided going to jail instead of spying on her. Following a wave of complaints, Elisabeth has apologized for being so insensitive and making light of a serious situation, People magazine informs.

It all started Tuesday morning, when Elizabeth made the comments on The View. According to her, Erin’s stalker, who has just recently been sentenced to prison for filming her through the peephole on two separate occasions this past year, could have avoided jail by simply waiting for a while longer and just watching DWTS instead. By saying so, Hasselbeck tried to stress that Erin’s outfits on the show were a bit too revealing for her taste but she only manages to shock a nation by making fun of a situation that was dangerous.

After being flooded with complaints from viewers and from Erin herself, Elizabeth has apologized. “Elisabeth Hasselbeck has apologized to Erin Andrews – publicly and privately – for comments she made Tuesday about Andrews’s choice of attire on Dancing With the Stars. Speaking tearfully on The View on Wednesday, Hasselbeck said she regretted the remarks, in which she said Andrews’s convicted stalker – who filmed her through a hotel room peephole – could have avoided prison and seen almost as much of Andrews just by watching this season of the hit ABC dancing competition,” People magazine writes.

“Hasselbeck said she left work Tuesday feeling bad about the comments and opened up to her 5-year-old daughter at home. ‘She’s so cute, she said to me, “Mommy, why don’t you just call Erin and tell her you’re sorry?”’ Hasselbeck said. ‘So, thankfully, I listened to her – she’s a wise little girl – and I did. So, I’m really sorry, and I wanted to offer that publicly too, even though I did follow that advice’,” the publication further says.

At the beginning of April, though with her stalker behind bars, Erin was again a target, as threatening emails and letters went out to several media outlets. Despite these, the ESPN correspondent announced intentions to continue dancing on DWTS, as we also reported.
