It has two USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and HDMi support, among other things

Computers have ports for almost anything, but not Thunderbolt, which is restricted to Apple devices and only the occasional non-Apple consumer electronic. Elgato has decided that that was cause enough to make a TB dock.

And not just any dock, but an all-in-one docking station that incorporates pretty much every interface that a PC has.

See, tablets, MacBook laptops and other mobile devices might not have as many I/O ports as you might need, especially if you and your friends have a whole bunch of connectable gadgets.

So Elgato has made the Thunderbolt Dock, which has a pair of Thunderbolt connectors, plus Gigabit Ethernet, an HDMI 1.4 output (can handle displays with resolution of up to 2560 x 1600 pixels resolution), and three USB 3.0 connectors. There's even audio jacks and a microphone input.

All in all, not bad for something that measures 178 x 80 x 25 mm / 7 x 3.14 x 1 inches. It's too bad that the price is so high, at $229.95 / €219.95.

At least the color scheme, black and grey, allows the product to fit into any room. So, say you have an all-in-one or Apple Mac system. You can connect your phone and headphones directly, but use the dock to hook up a portable HDD, a tablet and maybe a MacBook/Laptop at the same time.
