More often than not, animal rights activists, together with people who have a heart instead of a potato in their chest, go bananas when hearing about how circuses and some zoos treat animals.

One can only assume they'll turn into fruit baskets when learning that an elephant currently living in Ontario, Canada might be forced to take part in this year's local Christmas parade despite being in rather in poor health, maybe even suffering from cancer.

Ecorazzi says that, some time ago, Limba started feeling ill. Vets at the Bowmanville Zoo in Ontario, Canada, where the pachyderm presently resides, examined her and concluded that the elephant had developed a tumor on her left side.

Staff at the Zoo maintains that, tumor aside, 50-year-old Limba does not always feel sick and that, should she feel OK on the day when the Bowmanville Santa Claus Parade is scheduled to take place, there is no reason why she should not participate in this event.

“If [Limba]’s bright and happy, you couldn’t keep her away [from being in the parade],” the Zoo's owner, Michael Hackenberger, reportedly told the press.

Animal rights activist Dan MacInally disagrees and says that, “The elephant is clearly sick, is having abdominal problems, and has been having problems eating.” Therefore, it would be best if Limba were allowed to rest.

Dan MacInally and other people who share his views on this issue are asking that Limba be retired to a sanctuary, possibly somewhere in a warmer climate. Here's hoping the Bowmanville Zoo will give due consideration to this suggestion.
