Anarkali wanted to take a bath, wandered too far from the shoreline

A female elephant named Anarkali has recently been rescued from drowning in a lake near Amer Fort, India.

Sources say the elephant merely wanted to take a bath. Unfortunately, she wandered a tad too far from the shoreline, and found itself in a fairly deep patch.

Anarkali's owner, Arshad Ali, used a boat to reach the animal, jumped on the female elephant's back and guided her back to shore, Daily Mail reports.

At first, the elephant wasn't thrilled about having a human on its back and attempted shaking off her owner. Luckily for both of them, Anarkali soon realized the latter was trying to help her.

The female elephant was not injured during this very unpleasant experience. According to her owner, “She is fit and healthy now.”

As endearing as this animal rescue story might be, I just have one question: why does Mr. Arshad Ali own an elephant to begin with?

From my standpoint, people have no business keeping elephants captive and using them to make a few bucks. Regardless of how well they claim to treat them.
