Ellen Page: "Juno", Teen Vogue, On-Screen Nudity

Canadian actress and "Juno" star Ellen Page is not your ordinary, run-of-the-mill up and coming celebrity. Although she achieved considerable popularity with her Oscar-nominated portrayal of a pregnant teenager, Page is obviously focused on her career and not much else. Her success hasn't made her style-crazed and she's thankfully not trying to turn into a fashionista made up of various sillicone-enhanced plastic looking body parts, but then, you will ask, how come she landed the May Teen Vogue cover? Her photo is captioned "Independent spirit - Juno's Ellen Page keeps it real", and that's mostly the outlook she embodies: a young, determined woman, fiercely talented and (as an added bonus) with a slight lesbian turn.

The part with the "lesbian turn" is not exactly featured in Vogue, but as we all know, once you get into the spotlight, it's hard to keep some things about your life private. And so news got out that pretty much everyone who knows Ellen in her home town of Halifax, Nova Scotia is aware of the fact that she's not that much into guys. Which, of course, bears no relevance to the actress' career and very successful renditions of emotionally crippled young women, like the characters she portrays in "Juno", her critically-acclaimed 2005 project "Hard Candy" and her upcoming movie "The Tracey Fragments", in which she plays yet another dysfunctional teenager embarking on a harrowing quest in search of lost truths that no one really wants to uncover.

Wikipedia describes Page's upcoming movie as a journey which "leads us into the dark underbelly of the city, into the emotional cesspool of her home, through the brutality of her high school, the clinical cat and mouse games with her shrink and her soaring fantasies of Billy Zero - her boyfriend and Rock 'n' Roll savior." For her role, Page has also agreed to shoot a series of nude scenes, again, in a most unconventional manner, flashing her a*s and some very un-Hollywood, un-ladylike unshaved armpits. Whether that's a plot device, a visual statement or simply another decision to break the patterns, all we can say is that it's working. Stay tuned for more news on Page and her upcoming projects.
