Industry veterans who have worked for games such as
Quake IV, Homeworld or Anarchy Online have created a studio called Frozen Codebase that is currently
working on developing a sweet little title for the
Xbox Arcade - Elements of Destruction. Based on the concept that anything can be destroyed by the forces of nature, the game plans to bring a true destructible environment and seems in need of an engine good enough to make it happen.
That is the reason why Frozen Codebase have signed an agreement with Vicious Cycle Software to use their Vicious Engine on the upcoming title, "Our experience with the Vicious Engine allowed us to bring Elements of Destruction to our audience far faster than we had thought possible," said Ben Geisler, programmer and co-producer at Frozen Codebase. "Using the same middleware for an Xbox Live Arcade title as one might use for a full retail release helped our team adapt to the process quickly and easily."
Elements of Destruction for Xbox 360 represents one of the genre-crossing titles that have been created using the Vicious Engine. The game allows players to create lightning, tornadoes, earthquakes, plus many other forces of nature, blow buildings apart and generally create mayhem in towns, cities and the countryside. Head to head destruction modes are available, where you are able to test your skills against an opponent and try to find out who can cause the most damage, or you could go a bit more personal in the Double Cross mode and try to be the last man standing.
The game will use the newly released version of the Vicious Engine which offers, among many other things, an updated lightning system and model pixel shader technology. Perfect timing for Elements of Destruction, we'd dare to say!
