Stardock has announced that its latest strategy offering, Elemental: War of Magic, is set to be outed on the PC on August 24, the current beta stage, extended to those who have pre-ordered the new game, going up until the launch date. The same date is linked with both the retail launch and the appearance of the title on the Impulse digital distribution service that Stardock maintains.
Elemental: War of Magic should be a spiritual successor to Master of Magic, in the same way some have seen the Galactic Civilization series from the same developer as a successor to Master of Orion and Sins of a Solar Empire as an updated Homeworld.
The entire game world will be under the control of the player as they develop their powers and a set of ideas that will determine how the universe will look. The player starts the game with one wizard and one castle but as the experience progresses, both children and neutral heroes can be used to control more territory and defeat the various threats that appear on the map.
Stardock is focusing on allowing the player a lot of freedom in Elemental. Players will be able to focus on a military path, creating a small but powerful force, which uses the best weapons and has the thickest armor that can cleave through bigger crowds of poorly armed levies. Others will be able to emphasize magic power, employing their wizard as the main herald of their kingdom and obliterating cities and lands with their spells. There are also options to win in Elemental built around diplomacy and the civic development of a kingdom.
The developers at Stardock are also promising that
Elemental: War of Magic will be very open to player input, allowing modders to easily modify the variables and the gameplay mechanics to create new experiences that can then be shared with the community.
