The team in charge of the online infrastructure at publisher Electronic Arts announces that the servers that support its video games are at the moment down, which means that most gamers will have problems signing into some of the services and some functionality is also affected.

The information comes from an official message on the Twitter account of the support system of the company, and they say that the problem is at the moment under investigation and should be remedied as soon as possible.

Gamers can currently sign into the Origin digital distribution service and see the video games that they have installed, but the online functionality for plenty of them is affected and might impact the enjoyment of the titles.

In Dragon Age: Origins, the biggest Electronic Arts launch of the month, gamers will be unable to use any add-on content that they might have purchased and there are problems with the connection to the server, although local saves are not impacted in any way.

In FIFA 15, online elements are at the moment inaccessible and the Ultimate Team mode is also affected, which is a problem given how popular it has become and how much money gamers are spending on packs.

It’s unclear how long the community is willing to wait for Electronic Arts to solve the server problem before they start to actively criticize the company.

Modern gaming relies on online infrastructure

All modern video game launches, from FIFA 15 to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare to Assassin’s Creed Unity, depend heavily on the online environment in order to draw gamers in and keep them interested.

Companies need to make sure that their infrastructure is solid and manages to cope with both the number of players who are engaged with a title and the potential attacks coming from outside groups.

Recently, Blizzard was forced to apologize for the fact that the launch of Warlords of Draenor for World of Warcraft was affected by DDoS attacks coming from an unknown third entity, although no personal data was affected.

The EA games that are currently affected are all high-profile launches, and the company needs to make sure that it finds some way to compensate fans as long as it’s unable to quickly eliminate the server issues.

Ubisoft is the publisher that recently came under fire for the quality of its service and Electronic Arts might soon face criticism on the same level.
