Video game publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it has performed well during the first fiscal quarter of 2012, which ended on June 30, and reported a profit of 221 million dollars, which is a significant 23 percent more than during the same period of last year.

The company also reported that overall revenue has gone up to 999 million dollars, which is an increase of 23% over the 815 million reported during the first quarter of 2010.

Electronic Arts says that the biggest increase in sales has been seen on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, where a 47 percent increase over 2010 has happened.

The Xbox 360 has also performed well and the two home consoles have delivered 65% of the total sales for the first fiscal quarter of 2011.

John Riccitiello, who is the chief executive officer of Electronic Arts, has stated, “This was another solid quarter driven by both digital and packaged goods. We saw strong digital revenue growth over the prior year. On packaged goods, NCAA is off to a great start and pre-orders for Battlefield 3 are tracking extremely well.”

The biggest sellers for the first quarter include Portal 2, which was developed by Valve, with sales of more than 2 million copies, Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age II, which have also managed to go over the 2 million units mark for their entire life on shelves.

Interestingly, while mobile sales increased by 10 percent during the quarter, sales for the PlayStation Portable from Sony and the DS family from Nintendo have gone down significantly, by 42 and 27 percent.

Electronic Arts also says that FIFA 11 has managed to reach a lifetime sales total of 15 million copies while Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has sold more than 9 million units.

EA says it will have revenue of at least 3.825 billion dollars during the whole of the fiscal year.
