The focus of the company will change

Electronic Arts is one of the biggest gaming companies out there, having quite a lot of studios and IPs (Intellectual Properties) in its portfolio. It has games spread across all of the platforms found on today's market, but, one of the consoles has eluded it for quite some time, the Nintendo Wii.

EA Sports president Peter Moore recently talked about this, saying that the company's focus would change in order to profit from the popularity of the Wii, and that we would see more and more titles specifically made for the small white console. Now the CEO of Electronic Arts, John Riccietiello, comes to talk about the importance of the Wii.

He says that the fact that Nintendo alone is responsible for two thirds of the games released on the Wii needs to make game manufacturers more and more determined to bring their projects to that console. He goes on, stating that his company is more keen on making games for the high-end platforms, like the PC, Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, but must focus on developing titles for the Wii console as well.

“There's no question that having the lead platform be a platform with two thirds of the unit sales occurring to the first-party owner is a really unusual thing. We haven't seen that since prior to the original PlayStation.” said the CEO of EA. “We've got work to do on the Wii.”

These are definitely some interesting statements, which might hint to a change in direction on the part of the game developer and publisher. More Wii-specific titles might be the source of some very reasonable profits in the following period, especially since people’s interest in games will grow, at least according to Microsoft and Blizzard, because these are the most affordable form of entertainment.

Although the sales results from the last period haven't been all that good, let's just hope that Electronic Arts will continue to deliver great games and push the whole industry forward.
