Video game publisher Electronic Arts and the developers at 38 Studios and Big Huge Games have offered information on the day-one downloadable content that is included with copies of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

A statement from Electronic Arts says, “The Grand Champion Tyr Magnus will challenge players to compete in the Valor Arena and overcome all obstacles to survive the barbaric tournament and ultimately seize control of the arena.”

The Valor Arena will not consist simply of a number of engagements but will also offer a chance to meet new companions and engage with new rivals as the story progresses.

The company adds, “In addition, players can visit the Arena Battle Board to access a nearly endless variety of combat challenges. By completing bonus objectives in these challenges, like defeating all enemies without taking any damage, players can earn unique items and other rewards.”

The day-one DLC is also linked to the Mass Effect 3-themed armor in the game, which approximates that used by Commander Shepard in the upcoming Mass Effect 3.

Those who get the new Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will be able to just input a code included with the game in order to get the extra content. Those who get it on the secondary market will need to pay 800 Microsoft Points if they are playing on the Xbox 360 and 9.99 dollars (7.5 Euro) on the PlayStation 3 and the PC.

When 38 Studios and Electronic Arts announced that they would lock out single-player content via the online pass for the game, a lot of gamers reacted with anger, but since then the founder of the company defended the initiative, saying that they needed to offer extra value for first-time buyers.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is already out in the United States and it will also be shipped to gamers in Europe on Friday.
