Andrew Wilson, the new chief executive officer of video game publisher Electronic Arts, says that his company needs to continue to deliver quality innovation for its core game franchises in order to remain successful both critically and commercially.

GamesIndustry.biz quotes the executive as saying that his company also needs to create a service that can expand and enhance the player experience even when he is not engaged with an EA title and to connect gamers across platforms and titles.

Andrew Wilson states, “The reality is that big games are not as easy. Games are getting bigger, they are cross-platform, they’re live-service driven, and demands on games now are higher now than they’ve ever been in our history. At the same time, the level of immersion and engagement they offer is also higher.”

He adds, “We are working diligently to ensure we maintain operational excellence by putting the right people in place. We are working to fail as fast as possible, and listening to our consumers every step of the way to ensure we are delivering on what they expect from us.”

Electronic Arts revealed that Andrew Wilson was the new CEO of the company after months during which the board searched for a good replacement for John Ricittiello.

Initially, Peter Moore, the current chief operations officer, was seen as the natural choice given his previous experience and the fact that he was frequently used as a spokesperson.

Andrew Wilson has previously worked on the EA Sports division of the company.

The publisher is at the moment getting ready to launch FIFA 14, the football simulation, and later in the fall, it will also deliver Battlefield 4, the new shooter from DICE.

Electronic Arts is also creating versions of the games for the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, which will be available in November.
