It's unclear whether Ultima Forever is still in development

Video game publisher Electronic Arts announces that it is shutting down video game developer Mythic Entertainment, which has worked on projects like the recent mobile Dungeon Keeper title and Warhammer Online.

Kotaku quotes an official statement from the company that reads, "We are closing the EA Mythic location in Fairfax, Virginia, as we concentrate mobile development in our other studio locations. We are working with all impacted employees to provide assistance in finding new opportunities, either within EA or with other companies via an upcoming job fair."

Mythic was founded in 1995 and has since then created the classic Dark Age of Camelot experience.

Unfortunately, since it was acquired by Electronic Arts, the company was unable to work on interesting new titles and founder Marc Jacobs left in 2009 and created his own development company.

Dungeon Keeper, the most recent title from Mythic, was criticized for the microtransaction-heavy structure, which was probably a direct result of requirements coming from EA.

The company was also working on Ultima Forever: Quest for Avatar, which was supposed to offer a free-to-play, action-driven, cross-platform and online experience.

It's unclear whether the project is now canceled or if another studio inside Electronic Arts is in charge of it.
