Video game publisher Electronic Arts announces that it has filled the chief executive officer position by appointing Andrew Wilson to operationally lead the company.

John Riccitiello was the previous CEO and since he left, the board of the publishers worked to find the best person to take over from him.

Larry Probst, the executive chairman, states on the official Electronic Arts blog that, "I am convinced that Andrew was an inspired choice by our Board, and one I expect the team at EA will enthusiastically support. Andrew is the first studio executive to serve as our CEO, a testament to his blend of creative skills and business acumen."

He believes that Andrew Wilson is a charismatic and a compelling communicator who understands Electronic Arts and has all the abilities required to lead the company in the coming years.

The new CEO was previously the leader of the EA Sports division, where he was promoted after Peter Moore was named as chief operations officer.

He states, "I have a profound respect and passion for this organization, as well as for our global community of fans, and I’m incredibly motivated to serve our people, our gamers and our shareholders at such an exciting time in our industry."

Wilson believes that Electronic Arts can be the world's greatest video game focused company.

He also says that the strategy that has powered the publisher so far is solid and he plans to continue development of quality titles for the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, current-gen consoles and mobile devices.

Andrew Wilson, in his position as CEO, will have to deliver the results that shareholders and the board are expecting for the third and fourth quarters of the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31 of 2014.

Electronic Arts is getting ready to launch a new Need for Speed, FIFA 14 and Battlefield 4 in the coming months.
