Battlefield 3 has recently managed to get yet another award, this time from Gamescom organizers, before launch and a lot of fans are now hoping that the DICE developed game manage to beat Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in terms of sales.

But one leading executive at publisher Electronic Arts says that the company is not worried if it only places second come Christmas.

Speaking to Gamespot about the battle that is coming between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Peter Moore, who has recently been promoted to Chief Operations Officer at Electronic Arts, has said, “It’s less about being second place. This is about taking market share. This is really about a long-term strategy in what we think is a very important shooter segment that has driven over the last few years multiple billions of dollars of revenue into the industry.”

The executive admitted that Battlefield 3 has a long way to go before it manages to take the first person shooter crown for itself.

He added, “If you look at last year, you might argue that Call of Duty took maybe 90 percent of the market share. We think we can knock that down to 70 percent this year. We don’t have to outsell Call of Duty to have a very successful year. This is a long-term strategy to be a major player, if not ultimately a dominant player in this industry. But it starts this year.”

Moore also says that Electronic Arts is committed to its partners program, which will see the launch of games like Kingdoms of Amalur in the next few months and has also created hits like Rock Band, despite the fact that some analyst have criticized the initiative for its low profit margins.

The COO also promised more exciting news about new intellectual property in the coming months.
