The Elder Scrolls Online is one of the most widely expected game launches of 2014 and the team at ZeniMax Online is ready to increase the hype level among fans by revealing more information on the werewolves that populate its world.

The studio explains in a blog post that, “they can spread the disease Sanies Lupinus, which turns the infected into one of the bloodthirsty pack if left untreated. Werewolves are strongly associated with the Daedric Prince Hircine.”

ZeniMax Online says that the werewolves can attack players in most of the outdoor areas of The Elder Scrolls Online as long as environmental conditions are right and that their disease can be transmitted and players will have to deal with it as quickly as possible.

The creature is designed to frighten the player and the transformation process has been one of the most important elements of its design.

The team explains, “We drew inspiration from scenes in films featuring werewolves and combined that with our own ideas about what makes an awesome metamorphosis. We also have to consider the animation in relation to gameplay, working to ensure that it feels as good as it looks when you’re playing.”

When The Elder Scrolls Online launches, gamers will be able to use their skill points in order to improve their werewolf hunting abilities, extending the period of the transformation and increasing the power of his combat moves.

ZeniMax Online says that the sounds that the creature will make are based on human audio that was mixed with noises made by wolves, dogs and other animals.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to launch in the spring of 2014 on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony.

The game uses a subscription model and will allow gamers to explore the entire continent of Tamriel and deal with a powerful threat.
