The development team at ZeniMax Online is revealing that one of the enemies that players will be able to face in the coming The Elder Scrolls Online is a new incarnation of the atronach, which uses flames in order to attack its foes.

Gamers have already met the creatures in Skyrim and it seems that their grace is one of the elements that developers are aiming to emphasize for the new MMO, with the artist team adding a flickering flame effect in order to make them both mesmerizing and deadly.

The team says in an official blog that, “Comfortable both in melee and at range, the flame atronach can lob deadly balls of fire, and it radiates a continuous burning aura, making it quite dangerous at any distance.”

The flame-powered atronach can also attack via a spell that makes flames erupt from the ground and it will explore once defeated, in an effort to at least damage unsuspecting players.

ZeniMax Online then explains that it wants to make The Elder Scrolls Online a more immersive experience than an average MMO, which means challenging gamers to use their senses in order to stay safe.

The team explains that they have looked through big sound libraries to identify noise associated with fire that could be then tweaked in order to also fit the magical nature of the flame atronach.

They warn players, “When you’re out exploring, keep your ears open for crackling flames—it may save you!”

The new MMO is designed to give gamers the freedom to explore and to make choices, which has long been associated with the universe of the Elder Scrolls.

The team also promises a dynamic combat system that will focus on player action and reflexes.

The Elder Scrolls Online is set to launch on the PC, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in the first half of 2014.
