The Elder Scrolls Online might be the biggest MMO launch of 2013 and the success of the game will depend on how the huge fan base of the wider Bethesda-made game universe will react to the new mechanics and ideas that the title introduces.

The ZeniMax Online team recently revealed the addition of a full first-person mode and Matt Firor, the game director, tells Edge that his team was working on it long before the fan base began asking for the new feature.

He confesses to Edge that, “We needed to make sure we had the thirdperson working first, not just because it was your camera, but because it’s how everyone else sees you in the world. But we’ve known for a long time that we were going to do it.”

The first person view will make The Elder Scrolls Online look like the single-player titles in the franchise and will increase the sense of immersion, even though the game will be different from both Skyrim and Oblivion.

Firor also understands the muted reaction of the fan community and understands that his team has to work to demo all the core features of The Elder Scrolls Online.

He adds, “I think that the reaction that we had when we announced the game was more about having heard game developers say things about games for a long time and then what they were talking about.”

ZeniMax Online and Bethesda are aiming to launch The Elder Scrolls Online on the PC before the end of the year.

A limited beta stage will take place in the summer.

The MMO is widely believed to launch with a free-to-play business model, which means players will be able to explore the game without paying a monthly subscription.

The story will be linked to a three-way struggle between factions on Tamriel who are also dealing with the machinations of Daedra Molag Bal.
