Bethesda is preparing to unveil an Elder Scrolls Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), at least according to a new report that surfaced on the web.

The latest installment in Bethesda’s massively successful The Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim, broke sales records and impressed millions upon millions of players with sharp gameplay, complex story, and a huge open world.

While the studio has already confirmed that it’s now working on a next generation game project, it seems that Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax, is preparing a major announcement in May, in the form of an Elder Scrolls online game.

According to Tom’s Guide, an industry source has confirmed that Bethesda is overseeing the creation of an Elder Scrolls MMO that will be set “several hundred years” before any of the previous games in the actual franchise, like Morrowind, Oblivion or Skyrim.

Three playable factions are going to be included, which use the crests of a lion, dragon, and a bird of prey.

The announcement will be made in May, while more details are going to be shared at E3 2012 in June, and at QuakeCon 2012 in August. At the latter event, the Elder Scrolls MMO will headline it alongside Doom 4, coming from another ZeniMax-owned studio, id Software.

As further proof of this project, the report also highlights a variety of job listings on the ZeniMax website for developers with experience in online games, that will work on “an unannounced Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) title from its headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland.”

Bethesda has yet to comment on this report so who knows if it’s actually going to reveal an online game based on its Elder Scrolls series anytime soon.

While lots of Skyrim fans were thrilled with the game, many asked Bethesda to implement a sort of cooperative multiplayer mode, so that they can explore its world with friends.

An Elder Scrolls MMO could certainly satisfy those that want a bit more social experience with their RPG.
