The quality of the experience will be clear once it is launched

The development team working on Thief at Eidos Montreal says that all the resistance that long-term fans have shown to the rebooted experience will disappear as soon as they are able to actually play as Garrett once again.

Joe Khoury, a producer working on the title, tells the Official Xbox Magazine that he understands that some fans are not convinced so far, but that his team has plans to change their minds.

He states, “our greatest sense of satisfaction will be when the game’s released and that’s where we’ll overcome fan resistance. I think there are a lot of optimistically curious people just as there are some fans who don’t know the full extent of what we’re doing, so for sure they’re basing their impressions on the little information that they have, and that’s concerning for them.”

When the Thief reboot was announced, a number of gamers expressed doubt that Eidos would be able to capture the mix of stealth and mystery that powered the first three titles in the series.

Joe Khoury adds, “When I read a lot of the comments I can see where they’re coming from, and I can guarantee that part of that is just ‘wait and see, judge for yourself.’ Hopefully it’ll be good. We’re fairly confident, but then art is very delicate to judge – it’s an opinion.”

The developer says that the studio is listening to all feedback coming from the community after it releases new gameplay or new art assets.

He also hopes that in 15 years, the fans will talk about the rebooted Thief like they currently do about the first title in the franchise.

The rebooted Thief experience will be launched on February 25 next year in the United States and three days later in Europe, on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and current-gen devices.
