Edubuntu may not be as well known as Ubuntu, but it's still an important product from Canonical and has just reached version 12.04 LTS, along with Kubuntu, Xubuntu, and Ubuntu Server.

Edubuntu 12.04 is the first LTS (Long Term Support) version, which means that it will be supported with updates for the next five years.

Edubuntu 12.04 LTS comes with important changes, in order to improve the quality and stability of the distribution. This means that iTalc, the classroom management tool has been replaced by Epoptes, and LTSP was updated to version 5.3.

Also, Freemind and Geogebra were dropped from the default Edubuntu installation in an effort to avoid Java on the DVD. Moreover, the applications will not enter under LTS terms (along with the KDE version of edubuntu-desktop).
