Following the release of Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, Canonical has released the Edubuntu 12.04.1 LTS operating system, along with Kubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Mythbuntu, Xubuntu, and Ubuntu Server.

Edubuntu 12.04 LTS is the first Long Term Support release of the Edubuntu project. Being supported for 5 years, Canonical will keep it alive until April 2017. Edubuntu 12.04.1 LTS comes with important changes, as it now features Epoptes, a classroom administration tool that replaces iTalc. Moreover, LTSP has been updated to the latest upstream version, and Java is no longer included by default.

The next maintenance version for the Precise Pangolin operating system is Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS and it will be released on January 31st, 2013.
