Eddie Murphy and Melanie Brown from the Spice Girls have been involved for a couple of months, from July to December last year. Their brief affair resulted in a tiny bundle of joy, that Mel later called Angel Iris. But Angel is also the reason of discontent among the two former lovers: after a paternity test established that the comedian was indeed her papa, there still are some very important financial issues to be settled. Like, how much will Melanie get for bearing Eddie's child? And who's going to look after Angel in the coming years?
So far, Melanie has been the one doing all the talking in the media: to make a very, very long story short, she claims that, first and foremost, both she and Eddie wanted the child and even planned it, that the actor is a 'deadbeat dad' who not only refused to pay Angel's alimony but even Melanie's hospitalization bills and that she has tried all that was in her power to make him understand that he should play an important part in his child's life. Since all that failed, she was left with no other option than
head straight to court, asking a judge to force Eddie to fulfill his parental duties.
That may not be the truth and nothing but the truth that Mel B is telling us. Since Eddie kept the whole thing to himself (and his attorneys), refusing to talk to the press, the singer took it upon herself to keep us up to speed. And if she manages to sully his name a bit in the process, all the better. Thus, we've had so far interviews with various magazines and huge newspapers, live appearances (including on Larry King) and official statements from her attorney. All these had one common theme: how she was misled, misused and the dumped by Eddie, a man who, not for one second, agreed to do his duty.
Not so fast, says Eddie! Various sources claim that the actor has had it with all that trashing in the media and, if Melanie will not stop on her own, he will force her to do so by dragging her a*s to court. Apparently, the actor hired yet another attorney (he already had one that represented him) and together they penned a cease and desist letter to the Spice momma, urging her to quit bad-mouthing him to the journalists because such an act can have disastrous consequences on his reputation. From excerpts of the letter, that somehow got leaked on the Internet, seems that Melanie is only doing this (the trashing and bad-mouthing) because she's not content with the alimony she's currently getting and because she's asking for more money from Eddie.
'You have been engaging in a pattern of disseminating disparaging, negative and defamatory statements about Mr. Murphy, portraying him in a false and outrageous light in order to pressure Mr. Murphy to capitulate to your highly unreasonable extortionate demands. On Ms. Brown's behalf, Ms. Allred has demanded that my client not only pay very substantial child support, but that he also buy a $9 million house in Malibu and pay for all associated expenses for Ms. Brown to reside there for free for the next 18 years.', the letter is said to read.
The letter also goes on to destroy Melanie's story that Angel was planned and that she and Eddie had spoken beforehand about marriage: 'Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown were romantically involved for a period of only a few months, during which they neither lived together nor made any plans to have a family together. Ms. Brown's pregnancy was not planned by Mr. Murphy and came as a surprise to him.' The warning note ends with the message 'Shut up or I'll see you in court'. Maybe not in these exact words, but the truth is not far from it.
Story developing so stay tuned for more updates. Things only got worse or, as they say, caca has hit the fan.
