And the drama continues: although they were not even married and despite being an item for such a short period of time as a little above six months, the scandal that ensued after funnyman Eddie Murphy said on public television that he is not the father of Mel B's child reached another proportion this morning.
Sources close to Murphy initially told the British press that the actor dumped the once famous Spice Girl singer because she had openly criticized his mother, with whom he shares the same house. Now, after Melanie Brown visited her high-powered lawyers in Los Angeles, camp Murphy fights back, with allegations that she was cheating on him with another man.
Spies tell 'News of the World' that the comedian had his doubts as to Mel's loyalty and, for that reason only, hired a private eye to keep tabs on her. Last month, he was handed photos of Scary Spice with another man, looking very comfy with each other in L.A and that was the final drop.
'Eddie had his suspicions that Mel was becoming close to a guy he knows. He was furious when he saw the pictures. It does on the face of it seem spiteful to now doubt that he's the father of the baby, but as far as he's concerned he's been humiliated too. He's just evening the score.', the source said.
However, Melanie claims that she was not unfaithful to Eddie and hasn't seen any man while she was dating him. The child is his and he knows it, but he is just trying to rid himself of the responsibility that another son/daughter would imply.
'Is that the best they can throw at me? It just goes to show how desperate Eddie has got. I may have met another man for entirely innocent purposes, but I was always faithful to Eddie. He is the father of my baby and he knows it.', Brown said in a recent interview. But she is confident that a trial will eventually settle the matter and prove just how wrong and 'desperate' Eddie was when he said he was not the father of the yet unborn child.
