Ed Sheeran surprised fans this week with the release of a new song playing over the closing credits for Peter Jackson's movie “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.”  “I See Fire” is a beautiful acoustic song with amazing instrumentals and powerful lyrics. The music video includes footage from the movie, mixed with clips of Sheeran recording the song in the studio.

“I got the chance to produce and play all the instruments on it apart from the cello. Managed to learn violin for a day, hope you all dig it,” Ed wrote, while sharing his experience recording the song with his fans on Twitter.

He then added, “Big up Peter Jackson and his team for giving me the opportunity.”

“I See Fire” is Sheeran's first solo song in two years and it won't be on his new album. The song is a special single for the movie and will be only on the soundtrack of “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.”

Until the release date, December 13, 2013, fans of "The Hobbit" have the extended trailer and the songs from the soundtrack to keep them going.
