Ed Boon, the creator of the Mortal Kombat series, says that the story of the recently announced tenth title in the franchise is designed to use many of the elements introduced in the previous full game, while also adding some unique new twists designed to appeal to long-time fans.

Writing in an official message on his Twitter account, the game maker answered a number of questions about the new title and commented that it was hard to explain what kind of narrative fans would initially be able to enjoy.

In Mortal Kombat 9, many of the classic series characters were killed and a lot of alternate realities were involved, which means that the developers have to justify the appearance of all the fighters that the fan community believes to be dead or disappeared.

Apart from the spectacular trailer, the development team at NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros. have not offered too many details about the combat system that will be used in the new fighting game.

More details, including two new character reveals, will be delivered during E3 2014.

Mortal Kombat X will be launched on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft, the PlayStation 4 from Sony and current-gen consoles at some point in 2015.
