Ebuyer, an eCommerce hardware retailer, has announced the launch of  AMD-based HP laptops powered by Ubuntu and certified to run with this operating system by Canonical.

Ubuntu is becoming the OS of choice for many hardware retailers around the world. Canonical already has a deal in place with Dell and few other major retailers, but other ones are now joining the party, including Ebuyer, which is actually the biggest independent electronic commerce retailer in UK.

The laptops have been released as a result of a partnership between Canonical and Ebuyer. The OS of choice is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, the latest long term support version from Canonical that will be supported until 2019. The partnership with Canonical also means that the laptops have been certified to work with Ubuntu and buyers won't have any surprises with the hardware used.

AMD-based laptops with Ubuntu are quite rare

More and more retailers are choosing Linux to distribute with their laptops or PCs, and there are good reasons for that. Open source distros bring the prices down, and they have become a more user-friendly. New users should have any major problems adapting to a new operating system.

"Ebuyer.com is offering users a choice of three different AMD-based HP laptops preloaded with Ubuntu -  the HP 255 (£199.99), 355 (£249.99) and ProBook 455 (£299.99). All three devices come with 15.6 LED displays, 1 TB hard disk drive and AMD Quad core Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) with AMD RadeonTM graphics. Both the HP Probook 255 and 355 come with 4GB of RAM whilst the ProBook 455 boasts 8GB," reads the announcement from Ebuyer.com

All the laptops are Ubuntu Certified, so hardware components are fully compatible with Ubuntu and users will enjoy robustness and great performance, including touch screen support and hiDPI monitors. The new units should be available in store by the end of May.
