If you’re from the countryside and have recently moved to the city, surely you must have days when you feel homesick. If so, fret no more: a woman has canned cow farts and is selling them for $8 a pop, just so you can feel closer to home.

For the time being, this new “scent” is only available in Germany but, again, don’t worry, because it’s proven to be such a hit that the inventor has plans to go international.

At the same time, more aromas will be included, like horse, pig and manure. Still, eau de cow will remain the trendsetter, the first product from the “Countryside air to go” project.

“Tins filled with the air sucked out of an ageing wooden stable, straw lined and filled with gas produced by cattle has become an instant hit after it went on sale in Germany,” Metro informs in a recent article.

Apparently, people coming from the countryside and now living in the city are the main buyers of this product.

Anyone (with $8 to spare) can enjoy it just like they would a basic home air freshener: you simply peel the paper off and take a whiff of countryside air, aka gas produced by cows.

“Managers of the ‘Countryside air to go’ project say their clients are mainly country people who have moved to the city and want to be reminded of home,” says Metro.

And this was precisely the purpose of this invention, designer Daniela Dorrer from the village of Adlkofen in Bavaria tells the same publication.

“We hope to make people who miss the countryside happy and remind them of home,” Dorrer underlines.

Now that cow smell has proved to be such a hit, more “fragrances” are on the way.

“We are planning other smells such as horse, straw, pigs and manure. But most people miss the smell of the cows in the country, not really surprising as much of the smell is from cows,” Dorrer says.

The product is now available here – there’s a note that says that, due to increased demand, they’re now working on an English version of the site.
