Eaton and Abengoa Join Forces to Improve Solana Power Plant

Eaton Corporation has stated that officials managed to obtain $8.1 million contract from Abengoa Solar. As a result, the company will have to provide renewable energy distribution equipment for Solana Generating Station, which will most likely become one of the the largest solar power plants in the whole world.

The company is trying to face Arizona's inhabitants' need for alternative sources of energy, since the demand is increasing every year.

The new location is 70 miles away from Phoenix. The power plant's main advantage is its ability of producing clean energy by converting sunlight.

Also, the facility manages to stock and preserve its resources, during non-sunlight hours.

The plant will contribute to reducing pollution by improving air quality. Researchers found out that the plant's functioning might stop 475,000 tons of carbon dioxide from landing into the atmosphere every year.

A standard power plant wouldn't be able to offer such eco-friendly advantages.

“Solana is a unique project that will help position Arizona as a leader in alternative energy and overall reduction of carbon dioxide emissions,“ stated the company's officials.

Eaton will also help Abengoa develop its strategy by providing its partner with engineering and consulting services.

Solana doesn't function just like any other solar power plant. Its designers made sure that the new facility will be equipped with parabolic mirrors that store energy coming from the sun.

The stocked power has the ability to heat a fluid to approximately 700 degrees Fahrenheit. The factory uses this energy to power the steam turbines.

If things go according to plan, the power plant will open its gates in 2013. Due to its innovative technology, the facility will storage energy even after the sun has set.
