Scientists at the University of Hawaii Cancer Center maintain that, according to their investigation, women who eat plenty of fruits and vegetables are less likely to suffer from bladder cancer at some point in their lives.

The researchers reached this conclusion after monitoring a total of 185,885 older adults over twelve and a half years.

During this time, they recorded 581 cases of invasive bladder cancer. 152 of the people affected by this condition were women. The remainder 429 were men.

The specialists later argued that, as far as they could tell, the women who had reported a high intake of fruits and vegetables during said period of time had the lowest bladder cancer risk, EurekAlert reports.

Besides, they said that yellow-orange vegetables lowered bladder cancer risk in the case of women by an impressive 52%.

For some reason, a high intake of fruit and veggies did nothing to benefit the men taken into consideration for this research.

“Our study supports the fruit and vegetable recommendation for cancer prevention.”

“However, further investigation is needed to understand and explain why the reduced cancer risk with higher consumption of fruits and vegetables was confined to only women,” researcher Song-Yi Park commented on the outcome of this study.
